A practical all-rounder selection framework for IPL 2026 fantasy cricket on Exchange22: 4-over bowling all-rounders, batting all-rounders, and Impact Player slot under the 100-credit cap.

Fantasy cricket all-rounder selection

The 100-credit cap

Every team on Exchange22 starts with a 100-credit budget. Each player has a fantasy price between 7 and 11 credits. Big-name batters and strike bowlers sit near the top of the range, all-rounders and impact players hover around 9, and uncapped domestic players are the cheapest picks.

What the cap does

The credit cap is the single biggest design choice in fantasy cricket. It forces you to choose between a star-studded top order and a balanced all-round side. Most experienced Exchange22 players land their XI at 96–99 credits, leaving 1–4 credits unused for the bench.

  • Big-hitter side: 4 top-order BATs priced 10–11 each, cheap bowlers, captain on a pacer.
  • Balanced side: 3 BAT, 4 AR, 4 BOWL, captain on an all-rounder.
  • Death-over side: 6 BOWL, 4 BAT, 1 AR, captain on a death-over specialist.
Exchange22 rule: the team builder will block your save if your XI exceeds 100 credits or misses the role minimums. Fix the error before you can submit.

Role buckets and flex picks

Exchange22 splits the 11-player XI into four role buckets plus flex spots. The minimums are strict; the total of 11 must add up before you can submit.

RoleMinimumMaximumTypical price
Wicketkeeper (WK)148–10 credits
Batter (BAT)368–11 credits
All-rounder (AR)149–10 credits
Bowler (BOWL)368–10 credits
Flex (any role)037–9 credits

Most Exchange22 fantasy players fill 1 WK, 3 BAT, 1 AR, 3 BOWL and 3 flex picks from any role. That gives you flexibility to add an extra bowler on a green track, an extra batter on a flat deck, or a second keeper if you want a dismissal-heavy build.

Captain vs vice-captain

The captain and vice-captain picks are the most leveraged decisions on Exchange22. Captain points are doubled, vice-captain points are multiplied by 1.5. The difference between a smart captain pick and a popular captain pick is often the difference between finishing in the top 10% and the top 25%.

Three rules for captaincy

  • Default to an all-rounder. All-rounders give you two scoring streams — bat and ball — which protects you from low scores in one phase.
  • Switch to a batter on flat tracks. On Wankhede, Chinnaswamy and other batting-friendly venues, a top-order batter is the safer captain.
  • Switch to a bowler on green tracks. On seaming conditions (Dharamsala, sometimes Johannesburg), a strike pacer can run through the top order.

Vice-captain should ideally come from a different match phase than the captain. If your captain is a top-order batter, your vice-captain should be a death-over bowler from the chasing side.

Tie-break rules on Exchange22

Ties happen in roughly one in every 200 fantasy teams in a mega league. When two teams finish on the same points, Exchange22 applies a four-step tie-break ladder. Knowing this ladder helps you build for ties when the prize cut-off is tight.

  1. Captain points. The team whose captain scored the most points wins the tie.
  2. Vice-captain points. If captains are level, the higher vice-captain score breaks the tie.
  3. Boundary count. If still tied, the team with more boundaries (4s) breaks the tie.
  4. Six count. If still tied, the team with more sixes breaks the tie.

If both teams are still level after the ladder, the prize money is split equally. There is no coin toss or random tie-break at the Exchange22 level.

Every team starts with a 100-credit budget. You must pick 11 players who fit under that cap while meeting the role minimums.

How does the captain multiplier work?

The captain gets 2x the points they score in the match; the vice-captain gets 1.5x. Most winning teams captain an all-rounder.

No. Captain and vice-captain picks lock at the contest deadline (30 minutes before toss).

What is a flex pick?

A flex pick is any of the three remaining slots in your XI after the role minimums. You can fill flex with a batter, bowler, keeper or all-rounder.
