IPL 2026 fantasy strategy on Exchange22

The Exchange22 team builder gives you 100 credits, 11 picks, and the captain-and-vice-captain multipliers. Here's the strategy framework we use for every IPL match we play on the app.

The 100-credit budget is a constraint, not a target

The most common mistake on Exchange22 (and on every 100-credit fantasy app) is to spend close to 100 credits every match. The credit system exists to force a trade-off: do you want a slightly stronger top order, or do you want to invest in a premium all-rounder?

Our target is to spend 95–99 credits. Leave 1–5 credits unspent when the alternative is squeezing in a player you're not confident about. That 1–5 credit "slack" gives you room to upgrade a role if a late squad change happens.

Role balance: the 1-3-1-3 minimum

Exchange22 enforces a minimum role split: 1 wicketkeeper, 3 batters, 1 all-rounder, 3 bowlers. You can extend any role beyond the minimum, but you can't go under. The smartest structure in our testing is 1-4-2-4 or 1-3-2-5, depending on the match.

  • Use 1-4-2-4 on flat pitches where batters are likely to dominate.
  • Use 1-3-2-5 on slower, turning pitches where spinners and all-rounders get more overs.

Captain and vice-captain: the 2x and 1.5x multipliers

On Exchange22, the captain gets 2x points and the vice-captain gets 1.5x. These two picks are the highest-leverage decisions of the week. A bad captain pick can wipe out an otherwise strong XI.

Our captain rules

  1. Pick the captain from the top 4 of the batting order, or from a bowler who is guaranteed to bowl the death overs. Never captain a middle-order batter on a low-scoring pitch.
  2. Pick the captain from the team that is batting first if it's a slow wicket, and from the chasing team if it's a flat wicket. This is a 70/30 rule, not 100/0.
  3. Don't captain an all-rounder unless they bat in the top 6 and bowl 4 overs. The point ceiling is too low otherwise.
Captain trick: When in doubt, pick the captain from the team with the stronger top 4, not the team with the bigger name. T20 points correlate strongly with balls faced and dot balls bowled, both of which the top order dominates.

Reading the pitch report

The in-app pitch report card on Exchange22 is short — one line. Read it. If it says "dry, slow, turn expected", go with 1-3-2-5 and load up on spinners. If it says "flat, good carry, true bounce", go with 1-4-2-4 and pick power hitters for your captain.

Pitch reports are usually posted 2–3 hours before toss. Don't lock your team more than 30 minutes before the match starts — late squad changes (an impact player swap, a last-minute injury) can flip the calculus.

Contest selection: don't play the biggest pool every time

The mega contest (50,000+ entries) has a top prize that looks great and a payout curve that requires a top-0.5% finish. You'll lose money on it over the long run, even with a strong team. Instead, mix:

  • 70% of entries in small contests (10–100 entries) and head-to-head matches.
  • 20% in mid-size contests (500–5,000 entries).
  • 10% in one or two mega contests per week, sized to your bankroll.

The small contests are where you actually build a bankroll. The mega contests are the lottery ticket. Mix them in proportion.

FAQ

Quick answers for new Exchange22 players.

How do I pick a captain on Exchange22?

Pick from the top 4 batters of the team that's likely to bat on a flat pitch, or from a death-overs bowler on a slow wicket. Avoid middle-order captains unless the player is an elite all-rounder.

Should I always spend 100 credits?

No. Target 95–99. Leave 1–5 credits unspent for late squad changes.

What contest size is best for steady profit?

Small contests (10–100 entries) and head-to-head matches. The mega contests are lottery-style and erode bankroll over time.
